Jim Sandler obtains $25M verdict in San Diego condemnation case and obtains $8M and $4.5M settlements in two other cases.

In March 2008 Jim Sandler completed a month long jury trial in which his clients, the landowners in a San Diego condemnation case, were awarded $25,000,000 as just compensation for the taking of their property by the California Department of Transportation (“CalTrans”).  In State of California Department of Transportation v. Roll (San Diego Superior Court Case No. 839840-1) CalTrans took 74 acres of raw land in the Otay Mesa area of the City of San Diego, but offered to pay only $9,500,000 for the property due to the property's industrial zoning restrictions.  Jim established that a zoning change for the property (to mixed use multi-family residential and commercial) was reasonably probable in the near future, and then proved that the value of the property greatly exceeded the amount asserted by CalTrans.

During 2008 Jim also obtained pre-trial $8M and $4.5M settlements in condemnation cases in which the condemning agency appraisals were $3.9M and $1M, respectively.
