Ed Silverman is certified as a specialist in appellate law by the State Bar of California Board of Legal Specialization and has been included among San Diego appellate attorneys honored by SuperLawyers® every year since 2008. He is admitted to practice before all state and federal appellate courts in the State of California, as well as the United States Supreme Court and the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in Washington, D.C.

Ed graduated from the UCLA School of Law in 1977, having received his undergraduate degree with high honors from the University of Michigan.

After law school, Ed clerked for a federal district judge in San Diego for two years and then worked in the San Diego office of a large international law firm for five years, where he represented clients in complex commercial litigation. For the next 16 years, Ed was a trial and appellate attorney with Procopio, Cory, Hargreaves & Savitch LLP. He first litigated commercial disputes in the trial courts, ultimately focusing on civil appeals and writs. In 2003, he joined five of his former Procopio partners at Sandler, Lasry, Laube, Byer & Valdez LLP, where he continues to focus on appellate work in the state and federal courts. He represents parties and advising trial counsel on appellate matters in commercial law, family law, bankruptcy law, probate law, and civil procedure.

Ed is an adjunct professor at the University of San Diego School of Law, receiving its prestigious Huffman Award in recognition of professional and academic achievement in 2011. In acknowledgement of the pro bono legal services he has provided to the indigent, Ed received the California State Bar’s Wiley Manuel Award on 11 occasions and the San Diego Volunteer Lawyer Program Distinguished Service Award in 1998.
